The government of Dubai has identified the medical tourism as a key component of its economic development plans, and has ambitious plans to position itself to attract a major share of the global medical tourism industry.
Medical tourism in the UAE reached AED12.1 billion in 2018, most of it derived from Dubai.
According to the latest figures, Dubai treated 350,118 international medical tourists in 2019.
Dubai ranks 6th out of 46 destinations in the world engaging in medical tourism according to the Medical Tourism Index. Dubai has also number one destination for medical tourists in the Middle East for 2019, according to the Medical Tourism Index.
